Naturally falling into quarters, shopping in Cheltenham is a key activity and the town is recognised across the country as a key shopping destination, centrally located making it ideal for s shopping day trip or weekend away.
Well known High Street brands jostle for position in Cheltenham High Street, which is mainly pedestrianised. The former Beechwood Shopping Centre will see John Lewis opening their newest flagship store in 2018, which will no doubt be a popular addition to Cheltenham's retail offering. There are plans, too, for development of a new leisure quarter in the town.
In November 2017 Cheltenham was awarded 9th position as the best place for retail investment, beating 191 other towns and cities. The recognition offers a strong endorsement for the borough’s strong retail offer and future growth.
Research by Knight Frank identified 200 towns and cities outside London which were best for retail investment. Cheltenham met all key tests, these being:
- Dominating the local catchment – people are attracted to come and shop here
- People wanting to live and work here – business are looking to relocate and invest here
- A diverse retail offer that is growing – this is supported by the introduction of retailers such as John Lewis on the High Street
- An extremely attractive environment – the size of the borough makes it very easy to access all great parks, events and festivals.
Shopping is such a key part of Cheltenham, last year the Business Improvement District launched a new gift card that recipients can spend at a huge range of town centre businesses with over 70 shops and places to eat and drink signed up.
Regent Arcade Shopping Centre is Cheltenham’s only under cover shopping destination. Located in the heart of Cheltenham and conveniently positioned to link the High Street with The Promenade, the Arcade boasts an impressive line-up of over 60 retail stores and dining options all under one roof.
From big-name fashion giants, to unique independent stores, and everything in between, you’ll find everything you’re looking for and more at Regent Arcade.
Home to Kit William’s iconic Wishing Fish Clock since Regent Arcade’s opening in 1985, the world’s largest mechanical clock has enchanted generations of children by blowing bubbles and playing its familiar signature tune on the hour and half hour. A tourist attraction in its own right, our clock and its beloved characters are now the subject of their very own children’s book, written by Miranda Walker and illustrated by Hannah Shaw.
