Shopping Events, Crafts, Fairs & Markets in Cheltenham
With our wide tree-lined Promenade and our varied pedestrian streets, Cheltenham is the perfect place for pop-up markets, offering visitors and locals the chance to mooch amid local food produce or find the perfect souvenir from our craft fairs. The majority of Cheltenham's markets are held along the Promenade and Long Gardens, right in the centre of town, with a regular farmers market, a regular craft market, and an international market which visits every Spring, Autumn and Christmas.
In The Suffolks, the road is regularly closed to traffic, and becomes fully pedestrianised for a market which runs several Sundays throughout the summer. It is a well-loved event and brings together a fabulous array of artisan foods, local producers, antiques, homewares, crafts and clothing to form a bustling, lively market street. The Square and Street is also home to Street Fair on a May Bank Holiday market each year (usually the first Bank Holiday), and The Suffolks Christmas Market too.
Each year in Montpellier Gardens, there is the Midsummer Fiesta which is brilliant fun for families. It features live music stages, lots of free activities and a small funfair, plus a large local market full of traders with unique and handmade products.
As one of the larger venues in Cheltenham, the Town Hall is a regular host of touring, or internationally acclaimed markets; everything from vintage clothes to art, end of line sales to handmade crafts. So too is Cheltenham Racecourse, which is often a destination venue for large special interest fairs, from comic books to collectibles, cars to horses (of course!).
For those with a love of rooting through goodies on craft stalls, a more permanent feature of Cheltenham can be found at the top of Bath Road (by the Leckhampton roundabout and Norwood Pub), where an old yard and building have been converted to house antiques and knick-knacks to delight any buyer. You can spend an hour or two rummaging through everything from furniture to thimbles, and the market also hosts a pop-up fishmonger once a week. Not only that, but the building has been split in half. Half is dedicated to pop-up shops, with a new vendor setting up each week, and you're never quite sure what they will be selling.
