There are only two weeks to go until The Times and The Sunday Times Cheltenham Literature Festival (4-13 October).  This year we can look forward to more than 80 free events including cool spoken word gigs, literary pub quizzes, tarot reading, improvisation comedy, storytelling sessions and family fun trails.  Regardless of age or interest there will be something for you to enjoy, for free at the Cheltenham Literature Festival!

What's on in Cheltenham in October? Things to do this month...

It's that time to wrap up warm again as autumn officially arrives.  The fall is a particularly pretty time to visit Cheltenham, with our tree lined streets turning vibrant shades of orange and literature fans from near and far flocking to our Regency town to experience the world’s oldest literature festival.

We've been raving about the Cheltenham Beer Week for some time now and the big day is finally here!  From today until next next Sunday (22nd September) over 30 venues will celebrate Cheltenham Beer Week.  Bars, pubs, restaurants, bottle shops and brewers have signed up to host a wide variety of beery events. You can expect ‘meet the brewer’ evenings, food and beer matching, tutored tastings, beer quizzes, music and more!

With experts predicting one of our most colourful autumns yet, there couldn’t be a better time to visit the spectacular Sudeley Castle and Gardens, to experience the new Autumn Wildlife Trail.

Running daily from now until October 25, the trail will see families from far and wide follow the footprints of Sudeley’s resident wildlife around the grounds, and learn a thing or two about these charming creatures that call our countryside home.

There is no time to be down about the summer being over with many fabulous things to do in Cheltenham this September.  We launched the month with the Cheltenham Festival of Cycling, Cheltenham Paint Festival is currently brightening up our town and next week we have the Cheltenham Wellbeing Festival to look forward to.  We also have ten FREE days of heritage coming up with Cheltenham Heritage Open Days, plus a whole host of open air cinema screenings and live performances.

Today is the first official day of Cheltenham Paint Festival!  Our annual festival attracts leading national and international street artists to our Regency town and this year looks to the best yet with 130 artists expected to take part, creating street art in over 25 different paint locations spread across a 6km (4 mile) trail.  Read on for trail map details and to watch videos of interviews with the street artists.

We've just received some very exciting news!  Next month, The Lucky Onion will open a new addition to its family of five local properties with newly renovated The Hollow Bottom. The 17th Century Cotswold stone pub has been a staple part of the racing community for decades, it closed suddenly in July with many locals hoping the closure was temporary and it seems those wishes have come true.

(Tickets are already on sale to Cheltenham Festival members).   With The Festival bringing more than 900 of the best writers, thinkers and performers of our time to our vibrant Regency town, what experiences are truly unmissable?   We’ve asked Nicola Tuxworth, Literature Festival Head of Programming, to share her insights and top tips to ensure we make the most of the ten extraordinary days of unique experiences, critical debate and literary revelry.
