Opened in 1825, Pittville Park is the largest ornamental park in Cheltenham and features the magnificent Pittville Pump Room and lakes. This park is given a grade 2 listing under the English Heritage register of historic parks and gardens, with the Pump Room as a grade 1 historic building.
Pittville Park is divided in two by Evesham Road and is popular for families and non-families alike. The eastern side is well-known, being overlooked by Pittville Pump Room and with a vast children’s play area, including sand and water play area plus several aviaries where you’ll find popular birds and bunnies. Definitely worth a visit for families, (take a dry set of clothes for younger children!) On this side of Pittville Park visitors can enjoy refreshments from the Pittville Park Heritage Cafe, a kiosk next to the playground and Central Cross Cafe.
The second section of the park is much larger, here you’ll find the larger ‘lower lake’, also known as the boating lake, where you can fish during fishing season. This park also includes two smaller children’s play areas, tennis courts, a pitch and putt golf course, a skate park and a BMX park. You can even hire a boat for a relaxing trip on the lake.
Refreshments can be purchased on the western side of Pittville Park from The Boathouse Cafe. Activities can be booked via the The Boathouse whom also organise nature trails and events thoroughout the year for kids and families. See The Boathouse Activities (Boat Hire, Tennis, Pitch & Putt) for full details.
The park is ideal for those wanting to keep active and includes Run England 321 markers for a 2km route and hosts a free Park Run every Saturday morning. There is also a permanent orienteering course in Pittville Park. Leaflets are available for this course from the Central Cross and Boathouse Cafes.
Toilets can be found in the eastern park between the lake and Evesham Road.
