"A WORK OF GENIUS" "TERRIFIED MY TEEN!" "FANTASTIC PRODUCTION!" "REALLY BROUGHT THE STORY TO LIFE"
Grove Productions are absolutely thrilled to present The MOST authentic version of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde ever put to stage!
The Robert Louis Stevenson classic is brought to life on stage and follows Gabriel Utterson as he tries to unravel the mystery of his friend Dr Jekyll's new associate Mr Hyde. Why would Dr Jekyll change his will to leave everything to a man who has Satan's signature written upon his face? Can Dr Jekyll keep control of Mr Hyde? And will Utterson discover the terrible truth behind their friendship?
The dark figure of Mr Hyde stalks the streets of London, killing without remorse, while the devout Dr Jekyll goes about his daily life. Jekyll's obsession with the dual nature of man and the idea of good and evil has driven him to do the unthinkable. In the name of religion he turns to science in an attempt to cure the human soul, to draw out the bad and be left with only righteousness. As the bodies start to mount up, Dr Jekyll, afraid for his reputation, attempts to keep his relationship to Mr Hyde a secret. But this ungodly experiment can not end well.
The gripping and suspenseful tale has been lovingly, and painstakingly, adapted from Stevenson's original writing by Grove's resident wordsmith Joy-Amy Wigman. This has been done to create the most authentic version of the script possible, maintaining Stevenson's artful use of language, mystery, and thrill, but doing so in a way that is imaginative and engaging as a performance. As one audience member described it "The way that the story has been adapted from the book to the stage is a work of genius!" Sticking so close to the source material makes this piece not only a delight for literature enthusiasts, but makes it a must see for those studying the text at GCSE level.
The show received an abundance of praise on social media throughout its initial run. "A phenomenal show! A great adaptation so well put together and so clearly told. I loved it." said one audience member, and "A perfectly spooky adaptation, gorgeous staging, spot-on character portrayals, and just wonderful acting all round!" said another.
