Space fans need not look to the stars to gaze upon the wonders of the Solar System this summer, as Cheltenham will be playing host to a spectacular live theatre production exploring the 4.6 billion year history of the planets.

On Saturday 17th August astronomer and broadcaster Will Gater will be bringing his show about the planets to the Bacon Theatre. The Story of the Solar System tells the tale of how our planetary neighbourhood came to be and how the planets were transformed from wandering points of light into familiar worlds – worlds that we’ve now examined up-close with robotic rovers and orbiting spacecraft.

Along the way you’ll hear about the men and women who pioneered the study of our planetary neighbourhood and see how modern space missions, investigating strange and awe-inspiring alien landscapes, have built on their work.

“If you’ve ever looked up into the night sky and seen the Moon or a bright planet shining away and thought ‘I wonder how that got there’, then this show is for you!” says Gater.

The show brings together incredible imagery and video from recent space missions with live science demonstrations, audience participation and storytelling by Gater. Previous shows in Bristol and Exeter sold out completely so you’re advised to grab your ticket soon to avoid missing out.

Tickets are available from the Bacon Theatre box office and website at: http://www.bacontheatre.co.uk/    and     https://bacontheatre.ticketsolve.com/shows/873599024
