Gloucestershire County Council is expanding the free parking available to support NHS workers providing vital services to communities, to include staff delivering the Covid-19 vaccine to vulnerable people at home.

The county council is offering two types of on street free parking permits for NHS workers:

  • On Street NHS Permit Holder Only bays - near Cheltenham General Hospital
  • NHS Home Vaccination On Street Parking Permits for use in resident parking zones

The council’s parking officers will continue to be out and about in the normal way enforcing on street parking restrictions to ensure that streets are clear for emergency services and for people walking, cycling and reliant upon public transport.

Cllr Dave Norman, cabinet member responsible for parking, said: “We are absolutely committed to doing all we can to support those caring for the sick and vulnerable and feel providing free parking and home vaccination parking permits for those on the front line, is the least we can do.

“I would urge everyone to continue to park legally, considerately and safely. Many of our parking restrictions are there for the safety and protection of pedestrians, road users and vulnerable people. Those who seek to abuse this show of solidarity will be dealt with accordingly.”
