Move over John Lewis, there’s a new festive sensation in town, and it’s both hilarious and delicious!

The Beefy Boys, the renowned burger joint and winners of the UK’s Best Burger in 2023, have also put in a bid for the year’s best Christmas advert, having cooked up a story that’s set to leave audiences in stitches and craving more. Check out the Christmas advert here.

The parody masterpiece has been filmed in the heart of Hereford, where The Beefy Boys was first born, and takes a cheeky jab at the sentimental tear-jerkers that Christmas shoppers have come to expect from many department stores and supermarkets throughout the festive season. The concept, straight from the minds of The Beefy Boys themselves, showcases their signature wit and charisma.

Audiences will recognise the adverts soundtrack, which features a melancholy cover of Rick Astley’s ‘Never Going To Give You Up’. The track has been recorded by Jake of Diamonds, a Herefordshire semi-finalist from the 2022 season of The Voice, who has since gone on to support the likes of Tom Walker, as well as having his tracks played on Love Island.

The advert tells the heart-warming tale of a young boy’s misguided attempt at spreading Christmas cheer. And trust us, you won’t see the twist coming at the end!

The scene is set on a sunny summer day, where an elderly couple can be seen sharing a Beefy Boys takeaway on a bench. The video’s protagonist, a young boy, walks past them and acknowledges their charming set up. Fast forward to autumn, and the young boy walks past the elderly couple once more to see them enjoying a delicious burger, however the old man is seemingly unwell. Winter arrives, and the young boy walks past the bench once more to find the elderly lady alone. He decides to comfort her, using the last of his Christmas money to buy her a familiar meaty treat. However, everything is not as it seems, and a hilarious plot twist will leave viewers chuckling.

The advert amassed over 100,000 views with in its first hours online, with viewers rushing to the Comments section to have their say:

“Oh my, this is definitely the best Christmas advert of 2023” said Facebook user Tracey Jones.

“This is quite possibly the best Christmas advert ever made. I went through all of the emotions” said Tammy Warren on Facebook

“Brilliant, I was totally reaching for the tissues, and then I spat out my tea laughing” said Emma Louise Simcock

Speaking of their inspiration for the advert, co-founder of The Beefy Boys and winner of UK’s Best Burger Chef 2023 said, “Christmas adverts have become a bit of a genre themselves now, and they seem to get worse each year, so we wanted to sort of poke fun at them and give the concept a bit of a Beefy Boys twist as well as put a smile on people’s faces. We pulled together a team of local talent including our production crew, actors, and Jake of Diamonds, who recorded the perfect Rick Astley cover for the advert. The whole project has been produced on a shoestring budget and we are so happy with the finished result.”

The Beefy Boys, who have restaurants in Cheltenham, Hereford, and Shrewsbury, continue to prove that they don’t just serve the best burgers in the UK, but that they also deliver the laughs too.

If the advert has you captivated and crying out for festive burgers, you can catch Murf from The Beefy Boys as he shares the recipe to their Christmas Boy Burger on BBC One’s Saturday Kitchen on Saturday 23rd December.
