A donation of £3,527.86 has enabled the purchase of specialist sensory equipment, including a giant inflatable igloo dome, LED sensory lighting, interactive floor tiles, sensory cushions, and soft furnishings – all designed to support the needs of children with additional needs in a calm and engaging environment.

The sessions will offer a quieter, reduced-capacity setting where children under eight can enjoy inflatable and soft play with the support of a parent or guardian. The inflatable igloo, fitted with sensory equipment, provides a dedicated space that encourages relaxation, interaction, and discovery.

“Pied Piper is proud to fund this vital sensory dome and specialist equipment, giving SEND children in Gloucestershire a space of their own to play, learn, and thrive at Leisure at Cheltenham,” said Julie Kent MBE, Trustee, The Pied Piper Appeal.

The Pied Piper Appeal is a Gloucestershire-based charity dedicated to improving the lives of sick and disabled children across the county. Their work supports children in hospitals, special schools, and the wider community by funding essential equipment and projects that make a real difference.

The introduction of dedicated SEND sessions at Leisure at Cheltenham highlights the importance of creating inclusive and accessible experiences. These sensory-friendly sessions offer a supportive environment where children with SEND can participate in meaningful play, build confidence, and enjoy quality time with their families.

“On behalf of The Cheltenham Trust, I would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to The Pied Piper Appeal for their incredibly generous donation,” said James Baker, Interim CEO, The Cheltenham Trust. “This gift will make a significant and lasting difference to the children and families we support, helping us to create more inclusive and accessible experiences across our venues. We are truly grateful for the Pied Piper Appeal’s continued commitment to improving the lives of children and young people with additional needs.”

This initiative forms part of The Cheltenham Trust’s wider commitment to inclusivity – ensuring its venues and programmes are welcoming, accessible, and engaging for all. By working with partners such as The Pied Piper Appeal, the Trust continues to remove barriers to participation and promote community wellbeing through cultural, leisure, and educational experiences.
