A new bar and an expanded food menu are among the new additions to a 16th century manor house hotel following an eight-week refurbishment.

The Greenway Hotel and Spa has completed a significant refurbishment across its communal areas, including the spa brasserie, its main reception and stairwell, and its multi-purpose Austen Room.

It complements a separate transformation of the venue’s 21 bedrooms, which was completed in March 2023 – bringing total investment in the hotel to around £1.4 million over the past two years.

The Orchard Brasserie, located next to the hotel’s luxurious Elan Spa, has seen the installation of a permanent bar, serving a range of hot and cold beverages.

The menu has also been expanded to now offer hot breakfast and evening meals to complement its existing lunch and afternoon tea offerings, and has extended its opening hours from 8am to 7pm.

Appetising additions include mini fattoush salad, tempura vegetables and tentsuyu, or char siu pork bao bun with pickled vegetables, through to Asian slaw with pickled cucumber and flaked miso glazed salmon, glazed asparagus with poached egg and chorizo jam, or stout braised barbeque short rib with mash potato and toasted yeast and charred corn.

The neighbouring manor house has also completed its new look.

The limestone Tudor fireplace in the hotel’s main manor house reception – which is an original feature of the building alongside the oak wall panelling – and the existing wall panelling have been reinvigorated with a mid-tone blue backdrop which, combined with lighting control, creates a consistently warm ambience throughout the day.

Another of the hotel’s oldest features, the stairwell, has also been revitalised with Liberty wallpaper bursting with gold, grey and teal colours which form the main theme of the corridor area.

The venue’s Austen Room – which can cater for up to 12 people for meetings, private dining and other events – is now equipped with a James Bond-esque motorised wall-mounted ArtTV frame which can alternate between a picture and a TV for meetings, private dining or functions.

The project has been worked on by Director of Eden Hotel Collection Marian Cartter, who heads up the group’s design team, along with the company’s interior designer Lucy Yarwood.

Lucy said: “The Greenway Hotel and Spa is a fabulous building steeped in history, and this recent refurbishment aimed to bring the reception up to the standard of the bedroom refurbishment and create a welcome to our guests that sets the scene and expectations of the rest of the property.

“This latest refurbishment has not only injected a new lease of life into some of the communal areas such as the main reception and the stairwell, but functional adaptions to the likes of the Austen Room and the Orchard Brasserie means the hotel now has spaces that can flex to modern day needs.”

Craig Routledge, General Manager at The Greenway Hotel and Spa, has been enjoying hotel guests’ reactions as they walk through the door for the first time.

He added: “Our guests are now mesmerised by the beauty of the roaring limestone fireplace and the warm ambience it creates when they enter the main reception – and it’s this impression that we are trying to create as guests move throughout the building.

“As an industry value is more important than ever, so it’s important that we are able to create a sense of grandeur and that wow factor when people arrive so they have a place where they can create special memories – whether it’s an anniversary, birthday or a short break.

“I’m also particularly excited about the Orchard Brasserie’s potential, as it is now well placed to be such a key community asset for us.

“It is now operational 11 hours a day for the general public to grab a bite to eat or drink – and can also cater for events for up to 60 people standing and 25 people seated – and we will be announcing a range of different events that we will be hosting in this space.

“We are running a free open day for people to come and explore our new-look venue on Monday, May 6th – which promises to be a great day out for the family with amazing entertainment and thrilling activities.”

Midlands firm Builtec Developments Limited, based in Leamington Spa, worked on the latest eight-week refurbishment after playing an influential role in the transformation of the venue’s 21 bedrooms last year.

Mark Chambers, Group Managing Director of The Eden Hotel Collection, added: “It’s great to see The Greenway Hotel and Spa going from strength-to-strength since its major transformation last year.

“As custodians of precious buildings, we know how important it is that they are protected for future generations to enjoy, which is underlined in the programme of investment here over the past couple of years as we look forward to another year of growth.”

The boutique hotel is set in eight acres of stunning countryside grounds off Shurdington Road and holds a 4 AA Red Star rating.

As well as 21 newly-refurbished bedrooms and an Elan Spa, it also includes fine dining at the 3AA Rosette Garden Room restaurant.
