Independently-owned hospitality businesses in Cheltenham who came together in tough times have launched a new website - TURF Cheltenham.

When like-minded hospitality business owners formed a group in March 2020, as COVID-19 struck their industry, they quickly formed a co-operative to pool their experience and resources. United initially by their passion for providing first class service in hospitality, food and drink, they quickly saw the benefit of strength in numbers, with Zoom meetings to facilitate knowledge-sharing and avoid duplication of effort.

Members also share a common aim to celebrate the diversity and uniqueness of Cheltenham's hospitality offering, with businesses as individual as the personalities behind them.

By providing a support network and communicating vital information among its members, TURF will assist the sterling efforts by Cheltenham BID and Marketing Cheltenham to provide businesses with much needed support and guidance.

As a much-cherished sector within the wider business community, TURF will promote the independent hospitality scene as one of the pillars that makes Cheltenham attractive to residents, businesses and visitors.

Pak Wai Hung of 288 Bar & Wok said: (winner of Best Cheap Eats in The Observer Food Monthly Awards 2019) said:

“The Cheltenham hospitality scene has changed dramatically in the last 15 years since I opened Bar & Wok. It now rivals larger cities like Bristol or Birmingham for its range of world cuisines, catering for all budgets. There are now more pubs pulling real ales and bars creating unique cocktails than I could ever have imagined. Cheltenham isn’t just the heart of the Cotswolds but the heart of Cotswold Hospitality.”

David Jackson, Manager of Marketing Cheltenham, said: “Cheltenham’s residents have long enjoyed the passion and unique experience of independent business owners in the hospitality, food and drink sector, but Cheltenham’s reputation for festivals and shopping is enhanced by top class hospitality operators, which makes it an attractive destination for thousands of visitors from across the UK throughout the year.”
