Montpellier Gardens and Springfields Park recognised as some of the UK’s very best green spaces

Montpellier Gardens and Springfields Park in Cheltenham have recently been judged and recognised by the Green Flag Award scheme as some of the very best in the world. Montpellier Gardens and Springfields Park join four other Cheltenham parks (Pittville Park, Hatherley Park, Naunton Park and Winston Churchill Memorial Gardens) who are awarded this recognition in the south west of England.

The six Cheltenham parks are among a record-breaking 1,970 UK parks and green spaces and 131 in thirteen other countries around the world that will today receive a prestigious Green Flag Award, the mark of a quality park or green space.

This international award, now into its third decade, is a sign to the public that these two parks boast the highest possible environmental standards, are beautifully maintained and have excellent visitor facilities.

Councillor Chris Coleman, Cabinet member for clean and green said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive the Green Flag Awards for Montpellier Gardens and Springfields Park for the 12^th and 8^th year respectively.”

“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Montpellier Gardens and Springfields Park to such high standards.”

Adam Reynolds, green space manager said: “This prestigious award is testimony to the hard work and dedication shown by the Council’s partners, particularly its Friends Of groups and Ubico.

‘"Pittville Park has also received the much coveted additional Green Heritage Site accreditation for the management of the historic features.”

International Green Flag Award scheme manager Paul Todd said: “It’s fantastic that we have more Green Flag awards in the UK than ever before, joined this year by 131 International winners.”
