Coming Soon; Memsahib Gin & Tea Palace

At first glance, it might seem a strange combination - gin and tea - but on second thoughts, it combines two of our favourite things in one place, so why not! Opening on The Promenade on 3 November, at the former site of the Prom Vaults nightclub, the world first will bring a whole host of foodie delights, including tea and chai tea, snacks, an international gin selection and even a house-distilled gin!

Called Memsahib Gin and Tea Bar, it will be run by the owners of an established Cheltenham favourite East India Cafe, whose food is exquisite and of renowned quality. Speaking to Litu Mohiuddin, owner behind the new concept outlet, he comments "Work is in progress on the site and you can already see the contemporary design coming together. Although we haven't released the exact date yet, we should be open mid-October when the world will have its first gin & tea bar."

Visitors to the bar will be able to taste their way through more than 55 carefully selected and internationally-renowned gins, a house gin which has been lovingly distilled on site, a range of hot teas and spices and of course the opportunity to pair it with East India Cafe's Anglo-Indian food. 

Drawing on the town's history, the design for the bar combines a Regency feel with influences from the British Raj, a time which saw hundreds of Anglo-Indian women settle in Cheltenham and add their unique cultural influences. We've been promised it'll feel like we've stepped back into the 19th Century and we can't wait for the bar to open!
