In the Spring, bright yellow Daffodils cover the town of Cheltenham and the surrounding areas bringing a new lease of life following the dark winter months, and hope that the warmer weather is on the way.

Whether you are visiting Cheltenham for the weekend or you are a local resident, there is a fantastic Daffodil Driving Trail available on our doorstep that will take you through the country lanes and woodlands which these wonderful flowers call home. Nearly all of the woodland on this driving tour belongs to or is managed by the Forestry Commission, so there are plenty of perfect picnic spots and selfie backdrops along the way.

The Route...

Starting in the town of Cheltenham, you will first travel along the motorway towards the town of Newent. Along this route you will become aware of the increasing numbers of daffodils, hiding in woodland or brightening up the motorway embankments.

Coming off the motorway you will pass through the village of Gorsley, which is renowned for its stunning spring display of Daffodils followed by the villages of Kempley and Dymock. If all of the excitement of Daffodil Driving has got you in need for refreshment as you approach Dymock, why not settle down for a drink and bite to eat in a local cafe?

The route will then take you through to Oxenhall, where there is a small nature reserve and if you visit at the right time (which is now), two small fields will be carpeted in daffodils. There is also a wonderful place to park and enjoy the colourful Gwen and Vera’s Fields Nature Reserve, and again there is access to the surrounding woodland. After passing through Oxenhall you will then be able to drive into Newent and back to Cheltenham satisfied that you have seen one of the great sights of an English spring.
