A very warm welcome to Cheltenham - your cultural centre for the Cotswolds

Welcome to Visit Cheltenham, the official tourism website for the cultural centre of The Cotswolds, described in the New York Times in January 2016 as a town enjoying a cultural renaissance with many "happening spots", and featured in the Independent in November as a "Design Destination" with stylish places to eat, drink and stay.

Cheltenham was specifically designed in its 18th and 19th century heyday as a pleasure health resort for wealthy visitors, hence why it is often referred to  as Cheltenham Spa.  The legacy today leaves an exceptional range of quality accommodation, restaurants and entertainment in an elegant town, where many of the regency, architectural and heritage features can still be seen today, with the town maintaining much of its original culture.

However, recent modern redevelopments see a new generation of visitors to Cheltenham.   The Brewery Quarter is a buzzing district where old meets new and is home to branded stores, a multi-screen cinema, bowling alley and bars offering live gigs and entertainment throughout the week.  Cheltenham is also known for its excellent High Street shops and independent shopping quarters such as Montpellier and The Suffolks, and in 2017 John Lewis will open a flagship store in the former Beechwood Shopping Centre.  More new development is also planned throughout the town to develop a new leisure quarter.

Add to this its reputation for the year round calendar of events, which include the annual Cheltenham Festival series, with all 2017 dates now confirmed, being close to venues such as Cheltenham Racecourse and the Brennen and Brown Gin Distillery, and the many theatres and entertainment venues within the town, Cheltenham offers a hive of culture and activity to suit every generation.

Easily accessible from the M5, Cheltenham lies just over an hour away from Bristol and Birmingham and under two hours away from London.  There are excellent transport links by rail and road to the town.  Bordering The Cotswolds, Cheltenham offers an excellent base from which to explore the area too.
