Whats On in Cheltenham

Cheltenham is the Cultural Centre for the Cotswolds, where festivals and events in particular are a huge part of what Cheltenham is all about, seeing visitor flock to the town from across the world to see headline acts, famous faces and world class entertainment. 

The annual calendar of what’s on in Cheltenham is packed full of a wide range of fantastic events covering every season, adding to our status of a year-round destination, with events catering for all ages and interests.

Most notably Cheltenham is known for the Racecourse, hosting the annual Cheltenham Festival and Gold Cup every March, and the annual Cheltenham Festivals series, with the Jazz Festival in May, the Science Festival in June, followed by the Music Festival in July and Literature Festival in October .  Each of these events creates a fantastic buzz around the town, with an eclectic mix of culture, music, poetry and dance, with many famous faces certainly gracing the festival series stage.

Many other festivals also take place in and around the town throughout the year, with 2018 dates already announced for the key festivals.

Cheltenham also plays host to many theatrical performances at The Everyman, The Playhouse and The Bacon Theatre.  From ballet to Shakespeare and panto to proms, we are lucky to be able to boast about many fantastic shows and stars that grace the stage and add to Cheltenham’s appeal as a year-round event destination.

With a notable brewing history and wide range of places to eat and drink, look out for the various food and brewery tours and events, and festivals celebrating gin, beer and even tequila!

Cheltenham Town Hall, The Wilson – Cheltenham’s Museum and Art Gallery, and Leisure at Cheltenham put on a full calendar of annual events too, including many events for children throughout the school holidays.

For sports enthusiasts, you can’t go wrong on a summer’s day by visiting the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival, or maybe take in a day’s horse racing at any time from Autumn through to Spring.  

Close by, you will be able to visit many of the well-known county shows, including RHS Malvern Spring Festival, Three Counties Show, Cotswolds Show and Moreton in Marsh Show, with a selection of first class agricultural, equine displays and events, and trade stands displaying arts, crafts and a selection of locally made food and drink.

Each autumn, Cheltenham is on the programme for the Heritage Open Days, where many of our historic buildings open their doors to the public.  Guided Walking Tours are also available from sprint to autumn.

Cheltenham is now seeing many of our local pubs and cafes hosting gigs and live music, which are becoming ever popular across the town.

Add to this the many other events throughout the year for children and adults alike, whatever time of year you choose to visit Cheltenham, there will be something to keep you entertained.
