Autumn in Cheltenham
With its parks and gardens turning brilliant shades of red, orange and gold and the elegant Regency architecture taking on a warm and inviting charm, Cheltenham truly comes alive for the autumn.
The season kicks off with the return of Cheltenham Heritage Open Days, a 10-day impressive programme featuring 55 open buildings, plays, walks and talks. Followed by Cheltenham Literature Festival, packed with 400+ events and 500 speakers delivering inspiring talks, big debates, live music. As the world’s longest-running literature festival, the annual event leads the way in celebrating the written and spoken word, presenting the best new voices in fiction and poetry alongside literary greats and high-profile speakers.
Horse racing fans will flock to the home of jump racing, Cheltenham Racecourse, for two days in October to attend The Showcase and again for The November Meeting, an annual unmissable three-day meeting. Meanwhile train fans will head to the GWSR Autumn Showcase to enjoy an intensive timetable with both steam and heritage diesels in action and workshops open to see.
As mornings grow crisp and frosty, Cheltenham's autumn also heralds the approaching festive season. November brings lots of festivities, including the return of the magical undercover Cheltenham Ice Rink.
