Cheltenham Lido is set to introduce a brand-new winter wellbeing attraction this season with the launch of the Nordic Spa Experience, created in collaboration with sauna leasing specialist, Black Box Sauna.

Opening on Friday 12 December, the Nordic Spa Experience will transform the Lido into a serene Scandinavian-inspired retreat, offering guests the chance to relax, recharge, and experience the proven benefits of sauna and cold immersion throughout the winter period.

The setup will feature three saunas (including the Lido’s own, plus two Black Box Sauna units seating 8 and 4 people), two cold plunge tanks, astro-turf decking, festoon lighting, a sheltered area for belongings, and an Ice Room arriving in January. The experience is designed to support cardiovascular health, reduce inflammation, improve mood and mental clarity, and encourage mindful rest through the Nordic hot–cold–rest cycle.

Bookings will be released in three-week blocks and managed via the Black Box Sauna website, with direct links available on the Cheltenham Lido website. Please note: The main pool will remain closed during weekday sessions, but open at weekends for those wishing to incorporate cold-water immersion.

Chris Long, Events Manager at Cheltenham Lido, said: “We’re thrilled to bring a completely new experience to the Lido this winter. The Nordic Spa Experience allows us to extend our offering beyond the summer season and give our community a space to unwind, recover and reset during the colder months. Partnering with Black Box Sauna has enabled us to create something truly special.”

Oliver Marshall, Founder of Black Box Sauna, said: “Working with Cheltenham Lido allows us to share the benefits of sauna and contrast therapy with a wider audience. This collaboration creates an authentic Nordic environment in a beautiful, iconic venue - we’re excited for visitors to experience it.”
