This May half term, Cheltenham Playhouse is set to host the Cheltenham Fringe Festival for the third year running giving more opportunities for smaller and up and coming theatre makers.

After a successful previous two years, Cheltenham Fringe is set and ready to take place again, bigger and better than before. This year will see Fringe spanning over 9  days instead of 7 as in previous years giving even more opportunities for theatre makers to get their work shown in a professional theatre and bringing a bigger variation of low cost theatre for its audiences.

The festival was established in 2024 by co-founders Toni Shaw and Lauren Holland to provide a risk free platform for producers, directors, writers and performers. The week consists of theatre running from midday to late in the evening over three different performance spaces in the building, maximising the theatre’s potential. Audiences can expect to see everything from comedy to cabaret to children’s theatre. There’s something for everyone.

“It’s brilliant to see the theatre used in such a dynamic way to provide maximum opportunity for performers and audiences.” Says Lauren, “During previous Fringe’s, we’ve seen up to three shows going on at once giving audiences plenty to choose from and allowing room for more shows to be able to perform throughout the week.” Co-founder Toni added, “As actors and theatre makers ourselves, we know how difficult it can be to get started in the industry. We wanted to use our platform to give people that leg up so they can test out their material and use the experience to move forward with their work.”
