Painting Exhibition by artist Pete Bryden

One of Cheltenham's most vibrant galleries, Spring Cheltenham, is hosting an exhibition by Herefordshire artist Pete Bryden. Pete is best known for his semi abstract landscapes, inspired by the beautiful Wye Valley where he lives.

Pete says: 'Painting, for me, is an escape. I usually work listening to music. The landscapes that I create are imaginary, but they are undoubtedly inspired by the beautiful Welsh Marches – the borderland between England and Wales. My studio is perched on an elevated site, along with the remains of one of the many border castles that peppered the landscape in this area. It looks down towards the river Monnow, the middle of which is the border between England and Wales. It is an area that's steeped in history.

I usually start painting with no pre-conceived idea as to what I'm going to create. That ad-libbed creation process excites me – every painting is an adventure into the unknown.'
