About
**Postponed due to adverse weather conditions**
Full message from Cheltenham Borough Council 21/09/24 -
We have made the sad decision to postpone the Holst 150 celebration that was due to take place this afternoon in Imperial Gardens.
After last night’s torrential rain, and the forecast of further rain and thunderstorms today, we felt that there were too many risks to proceed. We plan to hold a celebration of Holst’s birthday at a later date and we will communicate this when we know more.
We hope you understand.

Cultural partners in Cheltenham have joined together to arrange a suite of celebrations between June and November for the 150th birthday of the town’s famous composer, Gustav Holst. Holst was an English composer, arranger and teacher and was born in Cheltenham in 1874. You can still visit his birthplace at Holst Victorian House, a museum celebrating Victorian life, located on Clarence Road in Cheltenham.
Activities planned for the town include concerts, plays, dance, exhibitions, and an array of community-curated events and projects. Discover more here - Holst 150.
One of the highlights will be a free community event, The Holst 150 Birthday Party, 21 September 2024, in Imperial Gardens. Everyone is welcome to bring a picnic – or buy food and drink from one of the numerous cafes and restaurants close to Imperial Square – while listening to music or taking part in one of the many all-ages activities.
Celebrations will centre on the Mars Stage, a large music stage programmed from 1 pm - 6 pm. Performances will be in various styles and genres, from classical to folk, to the more experimental.
