The Wilson

Cheltenham Art Gallery & Museum

Cheltenham Attractions

Cheltenham is home to some fantastic attractions, and though we don't offer theme parks and zoos, we do offer a wide range of cultural attractions for all ages to enjoy.

The Wilson - Cheltenham's Art Gallery & Museum, which opened to the public on 5 October 2013, is an elegant and stylish building, designed by architects Berman Guedes Stretton, and has something for everybody, whether they are local to the area, or coming to Cheltenham for the first time.  With a gallery dedicated to their extensive fine art collection, and a space to  discover more about local heroes, it is also home to many events throughout the year.

The birthplace of Gustav Holst, composer of 'The Planets', can be found at the Holst Birthplace Museum in Clarence Road on the north side of the town - 2014 was a year of celebration with 100 years since Holst composed his most famous musical score.  The Museum re-opened in December 2016 following flood damage and will once again be host to many superb events throughout 2017.

If you are interested in the sporting history, wander through the Hall of Fame at Cheltenham Racecourse, or if you want to take in more art in a variety of locations, try The Gardens Gallery in Montpellier Gardens, Whitewall Gallery at the back of Cavendish House on the Promenade, or Castle Fine Art nearby.  There are also smaller galleries within the town to enjoy, or even buy a picture to suit your taste.

Cheltenham is home to a growing arts, theatre and music scene, with entertainment venues which include Cheltenham Town Hall, the Everyman Theatre, The Playhouse and The Bacon Theatre.  Live entertainment takes place in many of Cheltenham's pubs and music venues throughout the year too.  The Brewery Quarter is home to an IMAX multiplex cinema complex and bowling alley as well as many restaurants and bars.

Another great asset to the town are Cheltenham's many parks and gardens, most with play areas and cafes, and used to hold many of Cheltenham's annual events.  Pittville Park was been nominated for the Fields in Trust UK’s Best Park and was shortlisted as a finalist in 2016. A superb attraction on a summer's day is the Lido at Sandford Parks.  One of the largest outdoor pools in the country, there is a 50 metre main swimming pool as well as a children's pool and paddling pool, both heated to over 70 degrees. Basketball, volleyball and table tennis are also available – all included in the entrance charge. Light refreshments are available at the poolside cafe.

If the weather isn't kind, Lesiure At Cheltenham offer indoor swimming and activities and hold events for children throughout the school holidays.
