Cheltenham BID Shopping Gift Card

New Gift Card makes the perfect present and promotes Cheltenham businesses of all kinds

A new gift card has been launched in Cheltenham that recipients can spend at a huge range of town centre businesses.

The Cheltenham Gift Card, being introduced by Cheltenham Business Improvement District (BID) launched on Saturday 19th August, can be spent on almost anything, any time, anywhere in the town centre.

More than 60 businesses have already signed up to accept the card, with shops, restaurants, bars, cafes and clubs all involved.

By treating a loved one or friend to a gift card, you are not only ensuring that they will have a greater choice of how to spend their present than ever before, but also that the money stays in Cheltenham.

Customers could buy clothes or jewellery, go for a pamper session, have their hair done, take a friend out for lunch or get a whole new look for their living room.

Kevan Blackadder, Director of Cheltenham BID, said: “The card is available at whatever sum you want to spend from £10 up to £500. It can be used in one go or in several visits to different businesses over a number of months.

“We’re expecting the cards to become a popular birthday present or a simple way to say thank you for a good turn. And just think how helpful they will be when it’s Christmas time and you run out of ideas. With the Cheltenham Gift Card, you can be sure the recipient will get the presents they really want.

“We’re also hoping larger companies will use the Gift Card to honour long-service achievements or reward excellence. What better way for them to show their support for both Cheltenham and their staff?”

The Cheltenham Gift can be bought online at a dedicated website – www.cheltenhamgiftcard.co.uk – or from either the Ultimate Party Shop in Regent Street or Wild Beer in Cambray Place.

Sue Clingan, owner of the Ultimate Party Shop, said: “We are thrilled to have been asked to play such a crucial part in this scheme. Being great believers in promoting the 'Shop Local' ideology and encouraging independent businesses and the town centre to thrive, we think this initiative will really succeed at doing both.”

Mat Tilley, manager of Wild Beer, said: “Being one of the first businesses to offer a point-of-sale in the town gives us a great reason for more people to not only visit us, but to also cross-promote the local businesses in Cheltenham.”

Stickers will be displayed in the windows of the businesses that accept the card. They include shops from independents like The Union Project to House of Fraser, restaurants like 131 and Turtle Bay, great bars including Whittle Taps and Aqua Vitae and cafes from Café Sarnie in Bennington Street to Café del Art and Gusto in Montpellier.

The card could also be a great help for anyone who lives elsewhere but has relatives or friends in Cheltenham. They will be able to go online, order the Cheltenham Gift Card and have it sent to a local address.

It can be used like any debit card and the 60-plus businesses are already set up to redeem the cards. It’s also possible to check the balance on the card at any time on the website.
