Call for performers to take part in Cheltenham Jazz Festival Around Town 2018

13th December 2017

Categories: News Main

Cheltenham Jazz Festival is looking for local performers to take part in the 2018 Cheltenham Jazz Festival Around Town programme, with a range of opportunities available from pop up performances in the town centre, to free stages on the Festival site. All are welcome to apply, from acoustic singer-songwriters to full blown big bands.  And they don’t even have to be jazz musicians: dancers, artists or street performers can apply to take part in one of the UK’s bestloved jazz festivals.
Performances take place over the May Bank Holiday weekend across a variety of indoor and outdoor locations. Last year saw 78 gigs in six days over three outdoor stages, three pop up performance spaces and four pubs/restaurants. The free Around Town programme is an immensely popular part of the Jazz Festival, attracting in excess of 22,000 people.
Festivals Director Ian George said: “Participating in the Around Town programme is a great way to get yourself noticed - jazz artists, agents and promoters are around morning and night taking in the jazz vibe over the festival period.”
21 year old singer-songwriter Sarah Munro is testimony to this.  She was picked from the 2016 Free Stage line-up to record a Henry Westons Session alongside the likes of Gregory Porter, Jamie Cullum, and Lianne La Havas.  One year later, Sarah returned to the Jazz Festival for a showcase gig in the PizzaExpress Live Arena and a mentoring session with key industry figures including Head of BBC Radio 2 Lewis Carnie.  Since Cheltenham 2017, Sarah has played a headline set at Cornbury Festival; a sold-out show at PizzaExpress Jazz Club in Soho; and in early 2018 will be releasing a second album and embarking on her first UK tour with venues including The Cavern Club in Liverpool, Bush Hall in London and The Stables in Milton Keynes.
The Jazz Festival will pay a fixed contribution to expenses of £125 and acts will be listed in the Around Town flyer and on the Cheltenham Festivals website.      More…
To apply visit the Cheltenham Festivals website.  The deadline for applications is 29 January 2018.
