Reopening of Holst Birthplace Museum

6th January 2017

Categories: News List

The Holst Birthplace Museum reopened to the public in mid December 2016 following a flood in June.

It took six months to refurbish the Museum, which saw three rooms, namely the nursery, the Victorian Bedroom where Gustav Holst was born in 1874, and the Regency Sitting Room being completely repaired and redecorated.

The Victorian Bedroom ceiling had to be replaced and new wallpaper, all handmade from the Cole & Son archive, had to be created for both the Victorian Bedroom and the Regency Sitting Room – the only Regency Sitting Room open to the public in Regency Cheltenham.

Further information about the refurbishment and the accompanying ‘Help Holst’ campaign to reopen the Museum can be found on the Museum’s website: The Museum also has active Facebook and Twitter accounts with regular updates.
