Explore the Area around Cheltenham

Cheltenham is located off junctions 10 and 11 of the M5 motorway and on the A40 from London and Oxford to Gloucester. Junction 10 has restricted access and only southbound traffic can exit the motorway here. From junction 11, follow the signs for Cheltenham Town Centre along the A40.

Approaching the town, you will find signs for The Wilson, Cheltenham's Art Gallery & Museum in Clarence Street.  Cheltenham Town Hall sits in Imperial Square, close to the Promenade and Pittville Pump Room is situated near Cheltenham Racecourse, taking the northern route through the town.  The Leisure Centre and Prince of Wales Stadium are also to be found on the north side of the town centre.  For other attractions and entertainment venues, see our town map.

Cheltenham is the cultural centre for the Cotswolds and, as well as being home to fantastic festivals and events, it is an ideal transport hub from which to explore the Cotswolds and surrounding area.  If you are staying for a short break or longer, take some time to meander through the winding lanes through the clusters of honey-coloured villages with the beautiful backdrop of the rolling Cotswold hills, or visit one of the thriving market towns.

Discover quirky events like the Cotswold Olimpicks and take your pick from the wealth of attractions, with something to suit every interest, ending your day at one of the many high quality restaurants.  If you want to explore the area more by foot, try walking along The Cotswold Way or one of the many other footpaths within the Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.  For further information on the Cotswolds visit www.cotswolds.com

You are also within a stone’s throw of  Shakespeare’s home town of Stratford-upon-Avon (45 mins) and a convenient bus ride to the dreaming spires of the university city of Oxford (45 mins).

Gloucestershire Airport at Staverton, just under 4 miles away from Cheltenham, offer flights to the Isle of Man, Jersey, Belfast, Glasgow and Newcastle and also offer private aircraft charter.

Call in to our Tourist Information Centre at The Wilson in Clarence Street for all your information on Cheltenham and local area or call 01242 237431.
