Cheltenham’s primary and secondary school children are encouraged to get their aprons on and submit their designs for a pudding fit for the Queen by the 2nd July 2022.

Inspired by the official 'Platinum Pudding' for HM The Queen's Jubilee this year, local projects No Child Left Behind and Feed Cheltenham, alongside hospitality independents TURF Cheltenham, have come together to offer this exciting opportunity for children in Cheltenham. Launching this Saturday (28 May) at the Cheltenham Children’s Festival.

Councillor Flo Clucas, cabinet member for safety and communities, said: ‘’Come and have a go! Whether it’s cheesecakes, steam puddings, tarts, pavlovas or sponges we’re encouraging both primary and secondary school-aged children to get thinking and create a remarkable pudding that would be fit for our Queen.’’

Lindsey Holland, Cheltenham TURF chair, said: “We are more than happy to support not only these two vital charities but also share the passion of baking with the next generation. Hospitality is always keen to develop the stars of the future and none more so than the members of TURF!’’

Sarah Avery, FEED Cheltenham project lead, added: “It is a pleasure to support this competition to encourage children to get in the kitchen and bake. Since the beginning of the pandemic, #FeedCheltenham has been feeding people in need of food support. We also want to encourage children to learn skills to keep themselves fed as they grow and what better way to inspire a love of cooking than through designing your own pudding.”

Judged by Sir Dusty Miller KBE, High Sheriff of Gloucester, Councillor Sandra Holliday, Mayor of Cheltenham and MP Alex Chalk at the National Star College with special guests from John Lewis who have kindly donated the prizes.

The finalists will spend time with expert chefs from TURF Cheltenham to refine the recipes on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 July. The winner will be announced at the final baking competition at Star Bistro with the judging taking place on Saturday 16 July.
