Golfers have made a welcome return to National Star’s StarGolf course this month.

The course, a hidden gem in the Cotswolds, was closed temporarily due to the COVID-19 pandemic as National Star locked down as a self-isolating household in order to protect the health of students with complex disabilities.

Now restrictions are being lifted, the fairways are open again with golfers being urged to take advantage of new, value-for-money membership offers.

StarGolf is a welcoming, family-friendly course which is attracting a growing number of younger players who are new to the sport as well as retaining longstanding members who enjoy the 18 hole course. With most of the holes a manageable but challenging par 3 StarGolf provides a way of playing golf without it taking all day.

Run by charity National Star, StarGolf’s gentle gradients make the course ideal for beginners, novices and the more casual golfer.

The course is now affiliated to the Gloucestershire Golf Union, which means golfers have the opportunity to apply for a County Card, which enables them to play at other golf clubs in the region and nationally and gain an official world handicap

Pete Johnson, head of commercial and social enterprise at National Star, said: ‘Golf is a flexible outdoor sport for all generations and families to enjoy together. With our current membership offers it is highly affordable too and could be just the game many people are looking for as they pledge to keep fit and be sociable (at a distance!)’

‘Affiliation gives us some brilliant opportunities to expand the game in Gloucestershire and I am excited to work on opportunities to involve students from National Star in the operation of the course.'

Golfers can sign up for an annual membership (currently running until 31 August 2021 that’s 13 months for the price of 12) or pay and play at £12 per round. Whatever option suits you best tee times now need to be booked in advance at stargolf.org

Nurse Helen Morris, one of the many women playing at StarGolf was delighted that the course had reopened. She said: ‘StarGolf is a very friendly, welcoming course and I’ve met so many lovely people playing there. The setting is beautiful, there is so much local wildlife around the course and I love the fact that I can often fit a nine hole round in before or after work.’

Membership for players under 18 costs as little as £53 a year, with concessionary rates also available for players over 65 years old. For more information about membership offers visit stargolf.org
