Local celebrities announced as hosts for first No Child Left Behind awards

No Child Left Behind, the partnership project to help children and young people thrive in Cheltenham, is pleased to announce BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter Nicky Price and singer and entertainer Camilla Lewington, as this year’s hosts for the first No Child Left Behind Awards.

The invite only ceremony - which aims to shine a light on projects that have made a real difference to local children and young people - will take on Thursday 30 January 2020 at Cheltenham Town Hall.  In total 55 nominations for local activities and projects have been submitted for the awards and they are now being assessed by judges for shortlisting.

Camilla Lewington, singer and entertainer, said: “Both Nicky and I are incredibly proud to be the hosts for the first ever No Child Left Behind awards. These awards will be a fabulous opportunity to recognise the essential role that the community plays in shaping the development and opportunities for local children and young people.’’

Nicky Price, BBC Radio Gloucestershire presenter, continued: ‘’It is such a privilege to be co-hosting the awards, celebrating the incredible individuals, teams and projects who go the extra mile to help. It’s a brilliant thing to be involved in and I cannot wait for the evening.”

Cllr Flo Clucas, cabinet member for healthy lifestyles, said: “We are thrilled to have both Nicky and Camilla working with us on this, they have both been supporters of No Child Left Behind since the early days, and of course they are both wonderfully entertaining and will make sure all our finalists and special guests have a fun evening while we shine a light on Cheltenham projects that have made a difference.

The nominations are currently being shortlisted by the following judges: Dame Janet Trotter Chair of Child Friendly Gloucestershire, Martin Surl, Police and Crime Commissioner, Chris Spencer Director of Children’s Services at Gloucestershire County Council and Roger Whyborn, Mayor of Cheltenham. The winners will be chosen by Gloucestershire County Council Ambassadors for Vulnerable Children and Young People.
