It may be only August but we have Christmas well and truly on our minds!  Sudeley Castle’s hugely popular Spectacle of Light returns for its fourth year this winter and we have an early bird ticket offer to share with you...

One of the reasons we love Christmas Spectacle of Light so much is the theme changes each year.   Last year we enjoyed meeting Alice and friend in Wonderland and this year we look forward to following some of the magical characters from Peter Pan around the grounds of our local castle in Winchcombe.

The dazzling event, which takes place on selected dates from November 30 until December 30, will see the historic castle and gardens transformed by an illuminated display of light and colour as darkness falls on the Cotswold Hills.

Organisers are promising a breath-taking trail around Sudeley Castle’s stunning grounds, marvelling at the romantic ruins and majestic gardens, all lit under the stars.  They have also organised music, art installations and costumed characters to meet and greet along the route of the magical winter wonderland.

Peter Pan, Wendy, Tinker Bell and the villainous Captain Hook will all feature in the spectacle, from J M Barrie’s timeless classic, Peter Pan. Visitors will also be able to make a wish and support the children of Great Ormond Street Hospital.

A host of other dramatic lighting installations promise to make this year’s event the best yet - including the First Light, the Garden of Blooms, Giant Flowers, Moroccan Lanterns and much more.

Tickets are on sale now, with ‘early bird’ discounts of more than 25 per cent off until September 30, available at https://sudeleycastle.co.uk/spectacle or by phone on 01242 705 555, or in person at the Everyman Theatre in Cheltenham.  (Early bird ticket prices are £14.50 for an adult and £8.70 for a child. Disability carers and children under three-years-old go free. Family tickets (for two adults and two children) cost £40.60).

It may seem early to be thinking about Christmas but last year’s Spectacle of Light event was the most popular to date, with tickets selling out for almost all evenings.

Sudeley Castle chief executive, Wendy Walton, said: “The amazing Spectacle of Light event is one of the highlights of the region’s winter calendar, and plans are already well underway to ensure this year’s event is the best yet.

“It offers a truly magical evening out, taking visitors on a journey of wonder and discovery around the castle's stunning grounds. It promises to be an awe-inspiring and truly memorable evening out for all the family and we are already looking forward to being able to share it with our visitors this winter.”

A selection of festive food and drink will also be on offer at the event, which runs on selected dates between November 30 and December 30, 2019.

Notes about the Spectacle of Light

Tickets are by timed entry, with the walk around the route taking approximately 60-75 minutes, although visitors are welcome to stay longer if they wish. For more information visit sudeleycastle.co.uk/events/spectacle-of-light
