Towards the back of the pub is the Coombe Hill Canal and Meadows, where pub goers can take a wonderful walk around the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust site. If this wasn’t enough there is also a very large history to absorb about how the Gloucester Old Spot came to be. During the 18th and 19th centuries a couple of houses were built along Cheltenham road. A large and iconic elm tree was made the focal point for the house building, this specific tree was located at the border of two lords, Elmstone Hardwicke and Boddington, who both wanted the proceeds of the elm tree. The rights were eventually handed over to the government who felled the elm tree in 1844 and an Inn, the White Swan, came to be. It was looked after by the Piff family who remained maintaining the property and still lived in the pub until 1824.

Food ranges from Beer Battered Hake with Mushy Peas all the way through to Moroccan Spiced Chicken and salad. The food provided is of a high quality and most of the meat is locally sourced. Drinks served at the pub are changed regularly and are often updated on the Facebook page to help keep visitors up to date with their selections of alcoholic drinks.
