The Holst Birthplace Museum is re-opening on 10th December 2016!
We are then open Tuesday 13th- Saturday 17th and Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st December. We will then close until Tuesday 3rd January when we will be open all year until December 2017.
Step inside the Holst Birthplace Museum and see the piano Gustav Holst used to compose The Planets. Discover why he liked its ‘light-touch.’ Find out how he developed into a world-class composer by examining and listening to original manuscripts written when he was a schoolboy. Experience what life was like for his modest middle-class family through Victorian rooms. Imagine Cheltenham’s Regency past in the only Regency room open to the public in the town. Picture yourself as a Victorian child as you play in the nursery. Lose yourself as you listen to the opening bars of Mars…
The Holst Birthplace Museum was opened in 1975 and remains one of only two composer birthplace museums in England. A registered charity, it is funded through admissions and grants, and through a wide-ranging programme of events, including concerts and talks throughout the year. The Museum also runs a successful education programme and creative activities for young visitors.
Guided Tours welcome by appointment. Adults £5.50, Concessions £5.00
Please contact the Curator 01242 524846 or email@example.com to make a booking.
An exciting addition is the Holst Discovery Space. This new room in the Museum houses the Holst archive – over 3,000 objects. There is an interactive kiosk where visitors can view and listen to some of the Museum’s collection of early Holst manuscripts.
